The care of avian casualties is an exacting and time consuming task. Frequently the results are disappointing and the patient dies. It is usually possible, however, to save a proportion of cases and this is more likely if preliminary first aid treatment is performed promptly and efficiently and with due awareness of the sensitivities and susceptibilities of wild birds.
