PRACTICE MANAGEMENT

DECISION MAKING

Everyday ethics: what is your approach?

FOR the past couple of years, In Practice has published an ethical dilemma in each issue, giving readers the opportunity to consider and contribute to the discussion of some of the ethical problems that can arise in veterinary practice. As the old adage goes, `There's more than one way to skin a cat', and, similarly, there is more than one way to approach an ethical dilemma. To start the New Year, Alison Hanlon has devised a quiz to help readers gain an insight into which approach they most closely align with.

Alison Hanlon is a senior lecturer in animal behaviour and welfare at the School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine, University College Dublin, and has been teaching on the Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine programme there since 1995. Her interests include animal welfare and food ethics, and she is involved in research on dairy cow welfare, horse welfare and attitudes towards animals.
