PRACTICE MANAGEMENT |
AS postgraduate education becomes an increasingly important focus within the veterinary profession, interest in the opportunities provided by veterinary schools and other institutions in the USA is growing. However, graduates of veterinary schools in the UK and Europe are at a relative disadvantage because of a lack of experience of the American system for placing suitable candidates in internship and residency positions. John Marshall has experienced the US's Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program as both a student in the UK and as an intern in the USA. Here he describes the intricacies of an application system which is quite different from that in the UK.
John Marshall graduated from Glasgow in 2003. He is currently in the first year of an equine surgery residency at Oklahoma State University.
