Dealing with a simulated rabies outbreak: A test of teamwork

Nick Blayney 1

1 In Practice management

RECENT epizootiological events have reinforced the need for contingency planning in anticipation of outbreaks of notifiable disease. In this article, Nick Blayney, who took part as a veterinary surgeon in practice, gives an account of a one-day exercise staged by Warwickshire County Council, prior to February 2001, to test the official response to a hypothetical incident of rabies.

Note:

The author thanks Sarah Gordon, VO, who devised the exercise, and Paul Coldicott and colleagues at Warwick District Council Animal Health Office for advice.
