Telemedicine - a vision of the future?

Pip Boydell 1

1 The Royal Society of Medicine Forum of Telemedicine

IN a recent article (May 2000, pp 280-281), Pip Boydell discussed how developments in information technology are influencing referral work. In this article he goes one step further and describes how developing technology might influence practice, discussing possible developments and potential problems that may occur as ‘medicine at a distance’ becomes a routine part of practice life.

Note:

The author is grateful to the Royal Society of Medicine for supplying the book ‘Introduction to Telemedicine’ by Wootton and Craig (1999). Much of the information in this article is based on that book and it is to be recommended as a primer for any interested persons.
