Trends in small animal practice 2. Health status of companion animals

David Cormack 1

1 The Institute of Management

THE Fort Dodge Index allows companion animal practitioners and practice managers to monitor a number of key marketing performance indicators and thereby compare the performance of their own practice with that of other participating practices. Quarterly reports, compiled from the data generated, are divided into two sections - one specific to management and the other to pet healthcare issues. The management issues were discussed in a recent article in In Practice (September 1999, pp 457-462). In this article, David Cormack looks at trends that have been identified in the health status of companion animals under the care of the participating practices.
