Treatment of palmar foot pain in the equine forelimb

Martin Gough

THE main causes of chronic palmar foot pain that may be differentiated are foot imbalance, navicular disease and distal interphalangeal joint disease. This article discusses the treatment and management of these problems and, where possible, indicates the likely outcome. An approach to the investigation and diagnosis of horses with palmar foot pain was described in the last issue (pages 358-366).

The author is grateful to the International League for the Protection of Horses for funding his residency, Dr Graham Munroe for assistance with the manuscript and Mr Andrew McDiarmid for some of the photographs used in the article.
