Making the transition from student to veterinary surgeon 1. Choosing the first job

FOR this year's crop of new graduates, on the brink of their veterinary careers, there is no doubt that the coming months will be both challenging and stressful. But what are the specific problems of the transition period from veterinary student to practising veterinary surgeon, and how might they be addressed? In the following pages, the subject is explored from various different perspectives. To begin with, Chris Tufnell, a student at Glasgow veterinary school, outlines some of the factors that he and his peers will be considering in the search for their all-important ‘first job’.
