MUCH concern has been voiced over the past few years about the high percentage of student veterinary nurses who fail their examinations each year. Does this high failure rate reflect the quality of the teaching, the standard of the examination, an inadequate input from the approved training centres (ATCs) or the aptitude of the students? There may be no straightforward answer but, as discussed by Jane More and Ray Butcher, the ATC plays a critical role in veterinary nurse training.
