Measuring up in the public eye

JOHN BOWER

IN 1992 the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) set up a joint working party with the BVA, BSAVA, BEVA and BCVA to examine the relationship between the veterinary profession and the animal-owning public. This working party was not established in response to any particular request or incident, but as a genuine wish to discover the situation by the then SPVS president, Des Thompson, and his council. Most arms of the profession were involved to ensure the widest possible range of views and experience. This article summarises the report of the working party.
